Updated: Dec 26, 2023

Imagine sitting on the tranquil shores of Gili T, Indonesia, (hungover, banging headache) at a holistic restaurant, indulging in a simple yet wholesome dessert while overlooking breathtaking scenery. This Smoothie Bowl isn't just a treat for your taste buds; it's an experience of pure relaxation and joy, capturing the essence of an island escape, the closest feeling to freedom. Packed with healthy goodness, this recipe is perfect for sweet toothers and health connoisseurs seeking a guilt-free delight after their heavy night out enjoying the local delicacies.

The Power of Smoothie Bowls: Smoothie bowls are a nutritional powerhouse, blending diverse ingredients to offer a concentrated mix of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Their customisability caters to various tastes and dietary needs, featuring a blend of fruits, veggies, nuts, and superfoods. Their thicker consistency encourages mindful eating, aiding digestion and promoting satiety. These bowls provide a convenient, energy-boosting, and visually appealing way to kickstart the day or refuel after travel, offering a burst of health benefits in each spoonful.

RECIPE

Allergens: Nuts

Ingredients:

Smoothie:

2 Frozen Bananas

80g Frozen Strawberries

1tsp Vanilla Extract

Toppings:

Crushed, Toasted Hazelnuts

1tsp Cinnamon

Method:

1. Toast: Pre-heat the oven at 180degrees. Add your hazelnuts to a tray and cook for 5-10mins (longer if needed). Make sure to check on them!

2. Crush: Once toasted, place a clean tea towel on top of a chopping board before adding the hazelnuts to said tea towel and (essentially) wrap them. Using a pastry roller bash the hazelnuts 'till they are crushed to your satisfaction.

3. Blend: Blend the smoothie ingredients in a high-speed blender until smooth and creamy.

4. Serve: Once set, pour the smoothie into a bowl then it's time to be creative and add your toppings! Layer on a generous amount of crushed hazelnuts for added texture before adding some cinnamon for that sweet nutritional boost.

5. Chill: Pour the excess smoothie into a fridge-safe container and eat at a later date.

6. Enjoy: Sit back, relax, and enjoy your homemade Smoothie Bowl, reminiscing about how carefree you were on your travels as you savour each spoonful of this healthy and decadent treat.

Part of the fun with this Smoothie Bowl is the freedom to unleash your creativity with toppings. Crushed toasted hazelnuts add a rich, nutty flavor and satisfying crunch as toppings to this bowl. They not only enhance texture but also offer nutritional value, being rich in healthy fats, fiber, vitamins, and minerals. Their versatility makes them an excellent choice for elevating the taste and nutritional profile of the dish. But don't limit yourself—experiment with toppings and unleash your imagination to personalise this dessert to your liking.

Enhance the experience by serving in a fresh coconut bowl, and for that ultimate island vibe, eat with a bamboo spoon, immersing yourself completely in the soothing island aura.

Final Thoughts:

This Smoothie Bowl isn't just a refreshing breakfast; it's a reminder of the simple pleasures in life—of relaxation, (borderline) freedom, and the joy found in a sweet dish that's both delicious and nourishing. So, whether you've been travelling or simply seeking a taste of paradise, this recipe is your ticket to experiencing a moment of island bliss, one spoonful at a time.
